It's a timely outpost for lunch before or after museum visits, dining pre-theater or making a night of it Downtown. The spacious, casual setting features a happening bar scene and chalkboard illustrations from local artists.

It seems rather small-town to boast about having an "urban experience" at any Dallas restaurant, let alone one perched on the edge of downtown. Certainly, ennui-swathed Manhattan crowds never coo over that heady feeling one gets when cars buzz by a packed street-side patio as glowing skyscrapers set an enchanted backdrop. No, citizens of world-class cities rarely coo.

There's something kind of brilliant about Lark on the Park, the 2-month-old restaurant on the edge of Klyde Warren Park. At noontime on a weekday, the light, airy dining room is a busy, buzzy lunch scene, filled with downtown office workers seeking refuge in a salad, well-coiffed ladies who lunch, scraggly guys relaxing with a sandwich and a beer.
